Course categoryAwards in Maintenance/Installation of Medical Gas Pipeline Systems: Competent Person (SCQF Level 6)

The Awards in Installation/Maintenance of Medical Gases Pipeline Systems: Competent Person (SCQF Level 6) are designed to meet the needs of learners seeking to qualify as Competent Persons for medical gases pipeline systems.

Safe operation of a Medical Gas Pipeline System (MGPS) relies on knowledgeable and skilled staff who understand the MGPS and can liaise with clinical users to ensure continuing patient safety. The Competent Person (CP) has responsibilities for the installation and/or maintenance of the MGPS and therefore must be suitably trained to fulfil this role.

The programme has been produced to conform to the requirements of the RQF, the SCQF, the National Occupational Standards for Skills for Health.

The aims of these programmes will allow learners to:

·         Apply theoretical understanding of medical gases pipeline systems to the role of Competent Person

·         Reflect upon own medical gases pipeline systems skills and thereby allow learners to prepare for operational roles within their organisation

·         Develop a lifelong learning attitude to education and training

·         Gain an insight into contemporary research and leading-edge practice within the field of medical gases pipeline systems

·         Develop autonomy in their learning and enhance their ability to plan, implement and evaluate the skills, knowledge and understanding of the role of Competent Person in a group context

·         Demonstrate self-direction, initiative and autonomy in research towards solutions to operational problems in the role of Competent Person and the field of medical gases pipeline systems

·         Evaluate proposed solutions to operational problems.
